Pankemwa Joy Shimang currently serves as the Program Manager at the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN). She oversees multiple portfolios, including Clinical Laboratory Field Operations and the Resolve to Save Lives Laboratory System Strengthening (LSS) Project. In this capacity, Joy coordinates laboratory field operation deliverables across supported states, trains and mentors laboratory personnel, monitors program implementation, and collaborates with key stakeholders such as the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and major donors like the Centers for Disease Control and Resolve to Save Lives.
Mrs. Shimang is a member of the National Laboratory Quality Assurance Team (NALQAT) and one of the pioneers of the Rapid Test Continuous Quality Improvement Initiative (RTCQI) implementation in the country. She has played a pivotal role in the establishment and successful rollout of the Institute’s RTCQI implementation across various supported states. With her expertise in clinical laboratory practices, public health programs, and several years of progressive experience, she has refined her skills in team leadership, strategic implementation, and innovative approaches. Her unwavering commitment to excellence and laboratory quality management system has made her an invaluable asset in advancing laboratory services and strengthening healthcare systems across Nigeria.
Joy holds a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology from Usman Danfodio University Sokoto, an Associate in Medical Laboratory Science (AIMLS) with a specialization in Virology from the Federal College of Veterinary and Medical Laboratory Technology, NVRI, VOM, and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Texila American University, Guyana, South America. Additionally, she has obtained professional certifications in Project Management in Global Health from the University of Washington, as well as Management and Leadership from The Open University and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
